| 摘要 | Once upon a time, it was thought that schools need good, strong, individual leaders to make schools effective. While it is still true that the quality of the lead school administrator is vitally important to creating effective schools, what is also true is that schools have become increasingly complex and it is essentially impossible for one individual, or even a small group of individuals, to create an effective school. There are simply too many expectations – all of which are important – placed on one individual. Meanwhile, hierarchical structures can make it very difficult for principals to do their job well. Schools are increasingly complex and as societies see more distance between the rich and the poor, schools are not being provided the resources required to meet the needs of their students. Teachers represent a pool of untapped potential to help support the learning goals of schools. Unfortunately, in many places, teachers have experienced de-professionalization and have been excluded from meaningful roles in schools beyond their own classrooms. Furthermore, in some cases, even within their own classrooms, teachers have seen reduced autonomy. Meanwhile, schools that empower teachers as professionals and find ways to include them in shared decision-making can make a positive impact not only on student learning but also teacher performance and satisfaction. |
