摘要 The pharmaceutical supply chain involves products such as vaccines and temperature-sensitive drugs that are subject to deterioration and strict expiration constraints. Failure to account for these factors in inventory decisions can result in excessive waste, higher operating costs, and risks to patient safety. In addition, the storage and distribution of pharmaceutical items, particularly under cold-chain conditions, contribute significantly to carbon emissions. To address these challenges, this study proposes an inventory model that explicitly integrates carbon emissions into the management of deteriorating pharmaceutical items with expiration dates. The proposed model captures both deterioration-induced waste and carbon-related costs associated with ordering, transportation, storage, and the disposal of expired products. Our purpose is to identify the optimal replenishment cycle and order quantity that minimizes the total cost while balancing emission constraints and service level requirements. Numerical experiments and sensitivity analyses are conducted to demonstrate the solution approach and to examine the effects of the model parameters on inventory policies, carbon emissions and total cost. The findings provide managerial insights to guide healthcare institutions and policymakers in designing sustainable pharmaceutical inventory strategies that improve cost efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and ensure supply reliability.
