The interfacial caps between nanotube bottom and Ti foil were gradually removed by oxalic acid. Here, the realization of a functional one‐dimensional nanostructure achieved through surface engineering of hematite (α‐Fe2O3) nanorods with a TiO2 overlayer is reported. The surface‐engineered hematite nanostructure exhibits significantly improved PEC performance as compared to untreated α‐Fe2O3, with an increase in the maximum incident photon‐to‐current efficiency (IPCE) of nearly 400% at 350 nm. Herein, TiO2 NPs with abundant surface hydroxyl groups were prepared using commercial titanium dioxide (ST-01) powder pretreated with alkaline hydrogen peroxide. The broadband light detection mechanism occurs because of the defects and band bending between the heterojunction interface. We have demonstrated this mechanism using CoSi2/SnO2, CoSi2/TiO2, Ge/SnO2 and Ge/TiO2 nano-heterojunction devices, and all these devices show broadband light detection ability. The ethanol solution of Ti(OC2H5)4 was mixed with an aqueous solution of H3PO4 to undergo hydrolysis and polycondensation at 90 °C for 4 h. The resultant solids were centrifugally filtered, dried, and then calcined at different temperatures, followed by chemical and physical characterization. At an atomic ratio of P/Ti = 0.03, the formed P-doped TiO2 can preserve its anatase structure at 900 °C for 3 h, with no formation of other phases. Further increasing the P/Ti atomic ratio in the P-doped TiO2 may stabilize the anatase–TiO2 at even higher temperatures but may lead to the formation of TiP2O7 or (TiO)2P2O7.
