C K-edge XANES spectra of rGOs reveal that thermal reduction restores C = C sp2 bonds and removes some of the oxygen and hydroxyl groups of GO, which initiates the evolution of carbonaceous species. The combination of C K-edge XANES and Kα XES spectra shows that the overlapping π and π* orbitals in rGOs and GO are similar to that of highly ordered pyrolytic graphite (HOPG), which has no band-gap. We have investigated the up-conversion (UC) and down-conversion (DC) luminescences in detail along with possible channels for energy transfer and their local electronic structures. The interfacial caps between nanotube bottom and Ti foil were gradually removed by oxalic acid. The electronic structure and lattice dynamics of copper metaborate Cu11B2O4 single crystals were investigated and compared with the optical properties of CuB2O4, to assess the boron isotope effect. The optical absorption spectrum at room temperature revealed two charge-transfer bands at approximately 4.30 and 5.21 eV with an extrapolated direct optical band gap of 3.16 ± 0.07 eV. Compared with the data on CuB2O4, the electronic transitions were shifted to lower energies upon the replacement of a heavier boron isotope. The band gap was also determined to be lower in Cu11B2O4. Ni and Cu are chosen because they are common materials in electronic devices, and In is one of the elements in commercial solders. The benefit of this joining process is the production of a bond at a low temperature. However, knowledge of the behaviors of the Ni/In/Cu ternary system at low temperatures is lacking due to issues with sample preparation. In this study, reactions at low temperatures and in the presence of a thin In layer are discussed. Based on the Kubo-Greenwood formula, we first calculate frequency-dependent optical conductivity based on the first-principles electronic structure calculations using the linear combinations of atomic orbitals. Nevertheless, the fundamental behaviors of this binary system are very difficult to study because of the extreme softness of indium. This difficulty was successfully overcome in this study, and the phase stabilities and chemical reactions were established. Binary Cu–In diffusion couples were prepared by electroplating In onto a Cu substrate. During the plating process, CuIn2 formed even though this intermetallic is not present in the Cu–In binary phase diagram.
