| 摘要 | This book is a series of reflections on lessons learned from Princeton University; by confronting challenges such as structuring relations with trustees, recruiting capable colleagues, managing an effective tenure process, setting academic priorities and raising the money required, budgeting to ensure the institution’s long-term financial viability, reconciling the need to be orderly and even relatively bureaucratic with the necessity to respect the specially character and climate of the academy. Princeton is a wealthy and private research university of high standing with a long history. The research university is a central institution of the twenty-first century. Research universities also generate growing enthusiasm worldwide (Altbach, 2009; Chang, Wu, Ching &Tang, 2009; Ma, 2009). It may provide a good example for many countries, leading to the establishment of their own world-class universities. |
