摘要 隨著IEEE 802.11 WLAN、IEEE 802.16 WiMAX 與IEEE 802.15.3 UWB 等 無線網路傳輸技術的發展,無線網路在日常生活的應用已變的無所不在, 這使得多重異質性網路環境成為無法避免的趨勢。另一方面,在市場前景 及應用層面而言,尤其是802.15.3 和802.16 支援寬頻帶的傳輸運用,使 其具有能夠攜帶大量資料的特性,對於提供影音多媒體的通訊,具有相當 的吸引力。因此保持影音多媒體的通訊在異質性網路之間無接縫換手交遞 (seamless handover)變成一件非常迫切的需求。鑒於此,IEEE 成立IEEE 802.21 的工作組織,專門研究異質性網路的切換問題,目的是促進終端設 備在不同類型的接入介質間實現無接縫換手交遞。雖然IEEE 802.21 協定 可現實現無接縫換手交遞,但是缺乏維持應有的服務品質之能力。所以我 們所面臨新的問題是無接縫換手交遞同時,如何維持影音多媒體通訊應有 的服務品質。 本計畫提出使用IEEE 802.21 協定實現多重異質性網路環境中確保服務 品質的換手機制,發展出中間層軟體,並在具備移動性強的嵌入式平台上 做測試,確保等級高的連線或即時影音多媒體資料能順利地換手並能保持 原有的服務品質。計畫的內容包含無接縫換手交遞的研究與實作、實現於 異質網路移動時仍具服務品質的影音傳遞服務等。 本計劃研究及實作多重異質性網路換手機制中間層軟體將有助於確保 資料、語音及多媒體等各類型資料,不會因為換手過程而造成遺失且具有 QoS 支援的能力,為目前世界上熱門的研究項目之一,重要性不言可喻,本 計畫之進行將有助於提高國內之學術界及產業界相關領域之競爭價值。 Since the rapid development and replacement of wireless networks, it makes many ubiquitous applications in our daily life. Because of its characteristic of ubiquitous, the Heterogeneous Wireless Networks is an unavoidable trend. On the other hand, from the view of market and applications, both the 802.15.3 and 802.16 network especially support to access wireless broadband networks, several multimedia applications now become reality and attractive for users with the large bandwidth. In such case, multimedia applications in the heterogeneous networks makes the support of seamless handover a key problem. Given the handover of heterogeneous networks, the IEEE 802.21 working group is proposed to provide seamless handover between different wireless networks for mobile stations. However, the IEEE 802.21 unable to provide QoS support for multimedia applications, the QoS for handover is still an open issue. In these three years project, we study the IEEE 802.21 standard and tries to implement a seamless handover mechanism in heterogeneous wireless networks with QoS support. It also attempts to develop middleware and do the testing on mobile embedded platform to guarantee the QoS abilities of multimedia applications. The study and implementation of this project to enhance the transmission quality of multimedia applications in heterogeneous wireless networks with seamless handover is a one of the advanced research topics in the world now. We believe that it is valuable and it also could improve the abilities of competitions in the field of research and industry.
