LinScientific Report 9, 7828The potential applications of perovskite manganite R1-xAxMnO3 (R = rare earth element; A = Sr, Ca) thin films have been continuously explored due to their multi-functional properties. In particular, the optimally hole-doped La0.67Ca0.33MnO3 thin film demonstrates a colossal magneto-resistance that is beneficial to the performance of spintronic devices. To understand the effect of R and A ions on the material properties, we systematically measure the resistivity, magnetization, and electronic energy states for three optimally hole-doped R0.67A0.33MnO3 thin films with R = La, Sm and A = Sr, Ca. The magnetic field-cooled and zero-field-cooled measurements and temperature-dependent Ni L3,2-edge X-ray magnetic circular dichroism spectra of NTO reveal a weak Ni-Ni ferromagnetic interaction close to ~60 K (TSO: temperature of the onset of spin ordering) with a net alignment of Ni spins (the uncompensated components of the Ni moments) along the crystallographic c-axis, which is absent from the ab-plane. Below the Néel temperature, TN~ 52 K, NTO is stable in the antiferromagnetic state with its spin axis parallel to

A sheet film with layer sequence Si/Ta/Pt/Ir20Mn80/Co/Ru/Co/FeOx/Co/Cu/Co/ Ni80Fe20/Ta was grown to fabricate the devices. Magnetization, magneto-transport, angle-dependent resistance, and Fe L3,2-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy were performed on the sheet film and microfabricated devices. The control of the dopant domain size allows us to tailor the electronic structure and the properties of the graphene. We have studied the electronic structure of boron nitride doped graphenes with different domain sizes by simulating their near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectra at the N K-edge. Six different doping configurations (five quantum dot type and one phase-separated zigzag-edged type) were chosen, and N K-edge NEXAFS spectra were calculated with large truncated cluster models by using the density functional theory with hybrid functional and the equivalent core hole approximation. PongScientific Reports 8, p.7758Various synchrotron radiation-based spectroscopic and microscopic techniques are used to elucidate the room-temperature ferromagnetism of carbon-doped ZnO-nanowires (ZnO-C:NW) via a mild C+ ion implantation method. The photoluminescence and magnetic hysteresis loops reveal that the implantation of C reduces the number of intrinsic surface defects and increases the saturated magnetization of ZnO-NW. The interstitial implanted C ions constitute the majority of defects in ZnO-C:NW as confirmed by the X-ray absorption spectroscopic studies. The X-ray magneti

B 86, 241103(R)The correlation between the p-type hole conduction and the electronic structures of Cr-deficient CuCr1−xO2 (x = 0−0.1) compounds was investigated using O K-, Cu, and Cr L3,2-edge x-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES), scanning photoelectron microscopy, and x-ray emission spectroscopy measurements. XANES spectra reveal a gradual increase in the Cu valence from Cu1+ to Cu2+ with increasing Cr deficiency x, whereas, the valence of Cr remains constant as Cr3+. MclaughlinScientific Reports 4, 3862We report an investigation into the magnetic and electronic properties of partially hydrogenated vertically aligned few layers graphene (FLG) synthesized by microwave plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition. The FLG samples are hydrogenated at different substrate temperatures to alter the degree of hydrogenation and their depth profile. The unique morphology of the structure gives rise to a unique geometry in which graphane/graphone is supported by graphene layers in the bulk, which is very different from other widely studied structures such as one-dimensional nanoribbons.
