The displacement model is adopted in the flexural part and the hybrid stress model in the transverse shear part. The plate concept is introduced and the governing equations of plate are derived variationally from the modified Hellinger‐Reissner principle. This new plate element is demonstrated to be more accurate than displacement formulation in the analysis of orthotropic thick laminated plates.
